Post will 225/55/15's size tires fit???

i have an 86' 944 with 15 inch phone dials. i need new tires and was thinking of getting yokohama AVS's. I was wondering if i could fit 225/55(or 60)/15 on all four wheels. Also what do you guys say about the tires? To me they seem really good for a price of $76 per tire.

According to my '87 manual, you can run 215/60 VR 15's front and rear. I think that would equate to 225/55 but the tire shop should be able to tell you if you have the right overall diameter.

What's the width of those phone dials? I wonder what I can fit on my cookie cutters...205/60 is looking the fattest without mucking things up...

I wanted to put wider tires on my early 85 without breaking the bank. I replaced the Michelin XGT's (great tires) with a set of 225/50/15 Dunlop SP8000's, the only down side of this is that the speedo reads a little fast.

I also found that the new tires don't grip so well in the rain.

Tire size 225/55/15 is extremely rare. I think the only non competition tire in that size is Michelin Pilot HX MXM, selling for over $170+ (without mounting/balancing)...

I've fit 245/50/15s on 7 inch rims. They were Dunlop SP Sport 8000 Pluses, and were approved for a 7 inch rim by Dunlop. I was very pleased with these, but I think a better size is 225/50/15, however it'll be on the short side.

Ahmet,

It was very difficult to find a +1 tire for my car, I was told by Discount Tire that this is because the demand for 16,17,18+ grown considerably.

keep in mind that the 225/50/15 will also look a little small in the wheel well.

My car is the one with the Hella's on the nose. It may not be the best picture for a comparison, but it's the only one I have.

i'm running 225/60/15 (yoko dB tires), very nice, very good grip and nicely priced. they look a bit fat, but are still spec height. i have been told numerous times by numerous people that 225/50/15 is a perfect equation for autox. not for regular driving, but for autocrossing. might be the speedo thing. maybe 225/50/16 would be preferable. this will be my next move.

I personally run some Yoko's that are 225/50/15 on my pd's. They are great. The speedo is way off, but there is a small difference in power. You also have the whole psychological thing that you are sitting about an inch closer to the ground. That took a while to get over. Our minds do tricky things!!!

I'm very pleased with the size. Looks great.
