Arrow Anyone have to really push to shift into 5th?

I've noticed that when I try to shift into fifth gear, it seems as if a rubber ball is resisting my 'up and to the right motion' of the shifter.

IIRC, while the car is not moving, I can shift into 5th, and all other gears, fine.

Also, this started to happen around the same time a grinding noise began to show up when the car is just started (cold), clutch pushed in and shifter in gear, but the car is not moving. The noise seems to be coming from the clutch and goes away after the car is warmed up.

Any ideas? I'm afraid of what you guys may reply. I just got the car all together again (problem wasn't related to (tranny/shifter)!

Im far from a mechanic, but what you got sounds very similar to what i had when my rubber center went the way of the dodo bird.
