Plates are the same cost as regular. For now, I insure it as a daily driver, but I'm looking into possible discounts.

Historic plate require that it be used only occasionally, so I wouldn't do it as a daily driver.

So, I'm keeping the cat and I'm going to put the resonator (Magnaflow 8" diameter x 24" length, straight-through) where the muffler was. I haven't got it welded up yet so I don't know what to expect.

Any thoughts on how loud this is going to be? I know I'm saving about 15 lbs.
Best power gain is from test pipe and if you use a stock muffler with it is only slighthly louder than stock. I run my 944 spec car like this and it works well. I can't really tell you if it sounds "Nice" or not, but I did run with a completly straight pipe and hated it even on the track. It was just too loud. I found that I could drive faster with a muffler since I could hear the engine rather than the exhaust and thus better modulate the throttle.

If you're driving it daily, you dont want anything too loud... i should know, i have 2.5" exhaust with a magnaflow hi flow cat, and a flowmaster 40 muffler. i had to put a resonator tip on it to quiet it down, but its still WAY too loud. I'd definitely recommend a good high flow cat... or test pipe if you like killing more than your fair share of polar bears... but definately try to get a reletively quiet muffler!! Or you'll hate your exhaust every day even if it does sound amazing after 3000-4000 RPM

Well, the deed is done. No audio file yet. My setup is original, except I deleted the muffler and replaced it with a straight-through Magnaflow resonator (24" x 8"). I'm still trying to figure out if I like it or not. It's NOT raspy. But it is pretty loud. The best parallel I can think of is that it's reminiscient of an old British sports car, amplified by 25%. Not high pitched and not a rumble. Somewhere in between.

From 1200 to 2500 RPM its nothing special (a little agricultural) and from 2500 to 5000 is sounds great. Above 5000 it seems to get quieter, but that's because everything else is getting noisier! It's going to help my fuel efficiency because I find myself upshifting sooner to keep the racket down! My butt dyno says its got a better mid-range, but I'm pretty sure that's imaginary.

I had a magnaflow muffler with a highflow cat on my N/A, and it sounded great! I the put a test pipe in place of the cat, but took it off cuz I honestly thought that my engine was going go KABOOM!
