someone mentioned this and i've wondered about it for awhile, so here goes:

what are those roof scoops on rally cars for any way? someone said something about cockpit air? is this really just a lighter way to get fresh air to the driver (than an electric fan)??

Yep they are just there to get air into the cockpit. The fan would def be heavier, and actually I know of some kits that actually vent air into the cockpit, most are just false peices, but if you want to spend the extra money you can go for the full effect.

Thanks for the absurdity reminder about F&F,

I can hardly wait to try out my home whipped-cream maker and a whippet of nitrous to see if it can recreate the highly explosive effects of the NOS in F&F. Good thing my oxy-acetylene tanks aren't as prone to rupture as all their nitrous bottles were...

Cheers

Speaking of nitrous explosions, did you guys ever see that Nissan Maxima that had a nitrous bottle blow up? Totalled the car and took out most of his garage too. The website was here, but they took the photos off:

<a href="http://www.healthyhome.net/nitrousexpress.htm" target="_blank">http://www.healthyhome.net/nitrousexpress.htm</a>

<a href="http://www.healthyhome.net/NOS2.htm" target="_blank">http://www.healthyhome.net/NOS2.htm</a>

<a href="http://www.healthyhome.net/DA.htm" target="_blank">http://www.healthyhome.net/DA.htm</a>

Luckily, I saved the photos:

Notice the trunk-lid was pushed halfway through the garage door:

The movie had a F355 Ferrari not a 348 as someone said. I think the movie was great even though some things were blown out of realism it still sparked my attention. Maybe this Fast and Furious will spark more movie makers to make more movies about cars. Maybe we will see a Canon Ball 3 or something? Who knows anways my .02 cents are Fast and the Furious was an awesome movie!!

heh heh

steve i think you just admitted to making use of nitrous in a decidedly non-automotive fashion.

nos is cool.

Ben, who has never seen whipped cream actually being made in a whipped cream-maker

First off, I loved going to that movie. I almost died laughing afterwards at all the ricers. Movie itself was awful except for the Charger.

Anywho...I thought I just might share a bit about the ol "Fast and the Furious" Supra. It is not all its cracked up to be. In fact it only runs a 12.2 sec quarter mile. Just check this page out and click the link on the right that says complete list of modifications.<a href="http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/supraff.html" target="_blank">(F&F SUPRA)</a>

As you all will see, the ricers claims of a this super 10 sec supra are really completely false. By about 2.2 sec as a matter of fact.

"But it looks cool" - My *** it does.

my uncle went to some sort of release party and most of the stars were there. Most of the cars were donated by a women owner. <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

Sam,

Haven't you seen the hot new oxy-ace injection set-ups, right into the manifold . Big power. So much so, they encourage the body be reinforced by diamond plate panels with trick purple rivets...

bs,

you sound like you're talking from inside a big steel drum... whump...whump...whump...whump...

Cheers,

Nah, that car was just a prop for the movie. Here's a real SupraTT, the one that broke the record for tuned road cars at the Nurburgring:

<a href="http://www.mkiv.co.nz/articles/mpower1.htm" target="_blank">750bhp Supra Blitzes London</a>

How about 50% MORE power than the F&F Supra! And in the time it takes the F&F car to reach 100mph, this thing will be doing 125mph!!!

Being that I'm an Asian teenager, and supposedly into rice, I really thought that movie was stupid. My friends on the other hand...but anyways, regarding the silvia and skyline. These two cars definitely should not be considered rice because of the stuff they can punch out of their engines. Along with acceleration and speed, the handling abilities of these cars are pretty darn amazing.

Anyways, I think that while you lump all of the import cars into one group, the nissan 240sx aka silvia is the only one with rear wheel drive, making it sort of a true sports car in my book. Also, contrary to popular belief, a good amount of silvia enthusiasts think magazines such as sport compact car and turbo and super street are baloney. WHile there are some ricers in the silvia group, the proportion is much much less than say maybe hondas??

BTW, the MKIV supra is scary......thats one beast there.

QUESTION: Several times in F&F the Supra breaks into what APPEAR to be controlled slides, both 4-wheel drifts and oversteers. Near the end, he's going to the bald guy's place, rounds a little corner and then breaks into a short, very well controlled, slide, INTO the driveway, and comes to a perfect STOP in the driveway. He appeared to be going very slow and the car stayed very flat- I ASSUME it had REALLY stiff suspension w/wide, low-profile, sticky tires, etc, but I'd think that would make the Supra (which already handles VERY well- better than Turbo S) hang even better! It would make a little more sense if he were going some 60+mph, but I don't think he was even doing 20mph. I realize that stunt drivers are incredible, but is there a special technique, was it the car, etc- how did it look so effortless? Supra's can REALLY hang in the corners, but are they just really easy to break loose when you want? I'm sure it's easy to break the rear loose w/THAT much power, but it looked like the fronts slid some too- it just looked so EFFORTLESS. I remember doing slides into our parking spaces in HS- we'd try to hit it just right so we'd stop perfectly in our spaces, but we didn't do it like that- we just came in ~40mph and swerved really hard (over other spaces) sliding into the space, but that's a lot different. I ask this partly b/c of some videos that someone posted links too recently (Ribs?). One was ~10seconds of a guy HANGING IT OUT SIDEWAYS all over the track in a modded Supra, white smoking tires, etc- it looked pretty cool and REALLY controlled- I can't see doing anything like that w/my 951S- maybe a 951 w/NO LSD- I've been told my LSD may be wearing out though. But, do Supras handle differently somehow in a way that makes that easier?

One of the parts I liked most in F&F was the girl driving underneath the semi- I don't ever remember seeing a truck high enough to drive my 951 under like that (or any car really), but I've always thought it'd be cool, even before I saw it in the movie...

Okay, I'll shut up now- any input on the Supra slide question? <img src="graemlins/a_smil17.gif" border="0" alt="[blabla]" /> <img src="graemlins/icon501.gif" border="0" alt="[icon501]" />
