Ok, Tom. I just looked up the info, what does your radio say on the faceplate? if it still says CODE you are ok, if it is ---- then what you heard is correct, you will need blaupunkt to unlock it ( according to Porsche Docs) it says after 3 incorrect attempts it will lock out for an hour and after 16 it locks out permanently.

Mark,
Thanks. Thats what i got. I tried unsuccessfully by hitting the left tuning rocker. now all i get is the four dashes. i left the radio on for a half hour and still got the four dashes. i then disconnected the battery overnight, and still get the four dashes.

I just read where you said Porsche says an hour. the owners manual says 20 mintues. i will calm down, get the belts done, and then when i take it for a long drive see what happens. if it is an hour then I would be wasting money to send it away now.

That was going to be my next suggestion, the early Boxsters had a CDR something that you actually had to leave the key on for an hour to allow it to count down once you got locked out. So maybe the key needs to be on for an hour.

GOT IT!!! Thanks Mark for posting the Porsche instructions which are different than the instructions on the blaupunkt site (turns out the papers in the car say an hour).

I put the key in the acc position, turned on the radio, hooked up the charger real low and started the stopwatch on the clock.

Came back to see how much time had passed and it was exactly an hour. sure enough the radio showed "code". input the code and viola - the radio works.

i was trying to figure out which button to push to get the numbers in, didnt realize it was the preset buttons, and i must have hit the down tuning button four times and locked it. It says i get sixteen tries, then a dealer has to unlock it. by locking myself out at four i didnt get the opportunity to hit the down button any more and really screw myself. it is the wait 20 minute (really an hour) part that messed me up.

Well we can put this experience in the archives for others to learn by.
