Ok so I think my oil pick up has a crack in it. Put almost 2 extra quarts of dino and the car runs fine. How bad is it to drive like this. I took it for a 45 minute drive and it was fine. I really do not want to drop the oil pan and fix this I would like to drive some because I feel Like I have been working on my car for like ever. thanks for any info...dan

Why do you think it is cracked? Are you losing pressure?
That could be a few things. Check valve, pump, things like that. If adding oil helps, it is temporary until it sucks air when you corner and the oil sloshes away from the crack. Then you'll be pulling the pan, doing beairngs, and possible a crank. No good there. Let us know the symptoms.
Also, adding too much oil can airate the oil from the lobes of the crank. This has a similar effect as sucking air, and can damage bearings. Also, it can blow out seals.

Perry, there is another thread on this problem.
<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=006303" target="_blank">What is it worth</a>
If it was my car I would pull the pan and see what the problem is. It isn't fixed until the source of the problem is found. Also, since the car was run with low or no oil preasure, the rod bearing need to be replaced ASAP.
