If you do need a new clutch, then we just found out (in another thread) a 1986 Mitsubishi Starion clutch disc will work perfectly in a 944 NA and only costs $32 at autozone. Or you could probably get it from the Mitsu dealer for under $100.

^ are you serious? that's cool.

but when you are replacing the clutch you should also replace the pressure plate and release bearing if they are the same age as the failed clutch.

I'm also not doing the labour myself as it's too much work and I got no time as I go to school right nwo and work so I have to be sure it actually fits.

that's cool though. I work in an auto parts place I'll check to see how much a misubish starion disk costs.

isn't the mitsubishi starion a really rare car in teh U.S and Canada?

would the starion pressuer plate and release bearing also fit?

i wonder what other mitsubishi parts would fit a 944 since porsche paid mitsubishi a royalty for every 944 motor.

I think it's just coincidence that the starion clutch fits. The driveshaft spline pattern and disc diameter on the 944 are standard dimensions and some other cars use the same dimensions. You can read the other thread if you're interested in the drab details.

No, the PP and TO bearing will not work from other cars! Those must be 944 parts. But those 2 parts, plus a mitsu disc, will add up to much less than $550. With the saved money you can almost afford a new clutch fork LOL!

Well saving the money on the disk is almost pointless if you're going to toss it all away on labor. Just do the work yourself. It's a great experience.

well I wouldn't call it a great experience when you have no other car to drive to school and work and have to bus for 5 hours a day and then come home and wrnech on the car on all your spare time lol.

I have no choice but to get someone to do it for me within a day or two.

Doing a clutch is a 944 is not my idea of a great experience. I taught myself a whole new vocabulary.

Where else can your hands end up looking like you groom badgers for a living? Yes, the first time has a steep learning curve.

odd it was my clutch and it blew up in a spectacular way today on my way home from university (check out my new thread).

I thought a bad rubber centre clutch would cause the drive shaft to be loose in the trans, mine wasn't.

the tow truck driver told me it sounds like my release bearing was bad.
