Hope I didnt upset you - hard to tell in text. I agree scope is the best method - just dont have one. Thanks for all the help.
My speed sensor is well and truly stuck in. Needs a 26mm spanner and socket bar with plenty of wellie to even turn it slightly. Mole wrenches and screwdrivers cannot lever it out - body just bends. I can see the bottom of the sensor under the bracket is turning when I turn the top, so the tin section is still well connected to the plastic section, and it doesnt look corroded. There appears to be an o-ring at the top which may be stopping my WD40 from getting down the side of the sensor. Perhaps someone used an oversized o-ring when last replacing the sensor.
I don't want to remove the whole bracket as this appears to be adjustable and I would'nt want to move it unless I really have to. I will probably remove the inlet manifold, etc to get better access.
I shall be really pissed off if its the ECU thats bad!!!

Head of the speed sensor came off so I am going to have to remove the sensor bracket after all. I notice that it is adjustable. Has anyone got the manual details showing how to replace it correctly? (Porsche 944 Auto 1983)
PS Site seems to be incredibly slow today.

PS will the Ref mark sensor automatically be OK if the speed sensor is set up OK? (I'm assuming that they are identical) - from the Haynes manual it looks like the ref pin on the flywheel is allen adjustable.

Since the bracket changes the depth for both sensors, in theory you don't. It is best to check it with a piece of wood. Stick the wood shaft into the bracket and mark the depth, then compare it to your sensors depth.

The ref sensor pin is adjusted when it is installed.
