Early AC **** repositioning?
Hey guys..
So, I don't really mind having an early interior. The only thing that really bugs me is that great big ugly AC ****. I would like to move it, or possibly replace the entire environmental controls with a console that has AC included.
Is this possible? Has anyone ever upgraded to a different control system? I realize that the older system is cable driven, and the 85+ system is vacuum driven, so it would be difficult if not virtually impossible to switch just the console to a newer unit.
Eventually, I may get rid of the AC all together, but its possible I may move to a place with a much warmer climate after school. So,I don't want to scrap it just yet.
Ideas, suggestions?
Thanks!

I'd say keep it how it is or completely delete it. I am in the process of doing the early to late swap myself (using zero early parts, though) and I can definitely tell you that the late a/c system does not fit at all in an early car. the sheet-metal, mounting points, and design are all too different. You're really stuck with it unless you want to relocate the controls somewhere out of sight... or maybe built a cover or something. I don't know... Good luck.

Yea, Thats really what I was thinking about. Some kind of smaller, less obtrusive switch that can indiscreetly installed near the controls. That big AC **** is taking up too much space, and Its a great place to install another gauge (maybe AF ratio, etc...).
