Default odometer has stopped working

My mile odometer has just stopped working. the speed needle still works . so where should I start. and or where can I get the part/parts to fix and is it hard to fix ?

The original gear is the best way to go.
The gear is the "fuse" in the system. When the odometer binds up, the gear strips as designed.
If the gear does not strip the drive motor will be damaged. Expensive!

When you replace the gear, remove the excess end play in the odometer
or it will happen again.
