so i'm having erratic temps - ok operating temp 2 bar (usually 1-1.5), but with it rising to above 3 bar at a standstill with a slight bump in the guage (high temp fans i think) before it comes back down to 2 bar

at stone cold start up, no fans are on, both fans come on with the AC

having the AC on also keeps my temps from doing the 3 bar thing and when on, the car generally runs as it used to, 1-2 bar

is there something else i should be checking to rule things out?
i have the clarks article on this, is the 924S early or late style?

thanks a lot

These cars have actual temperature guages that fluctuate with the coolant temp. Normal operating range is just a hair over the third bar, then the fans come on and bring the temps down to somewhere between the first and second bars. You dont have to worry until the temp keeps going up past the third bar.

Basically from what youve described it sounds like your cooling system is working properly.

thanks - for some reason, i think something is up with the lower temp fan

the wierd thing is when i turn off the car at operating temp, there is no fan activity. i believe there used to be one fan remain on when i turned it off at 2-3 bars.

this used to always just be 1-2 bar back and forth before a cam housing project, and now it seems to be different

what should the single lower-temp fan's activity be like?

my gut tells me that its the problem, and there is some relay or something that is making it all or nothing with the high temp dual fans coming on at 3, but at standstill the car getting hotter than it should be because of this lower temp fan not coming on.

If this is like a late 944, you may have a similar issue to what I had. I'm not sure what style would be in your car, but the Clark's writeup led me to the resistors, which had crappy wiring, and then to the fan relay ($$$) and everything works as it should now.

looking at checking the switch, im told at the front of the head

looking at whats on pelican, i dont understand the difference between auxiliary fan switch and thermo fan switch

im assuming i want the 75ºC one and not 95ºC - i think that one is working when i hit my 3 bars,
