968 Door Handles
I have read all of the past forums for the 968 door handle restoration, and I have read that some people had a direct fit by only using a set list of parts from the dealer, while others required additional parts, such as lock cylenders. So my question is I have a 84 944, and I would like know if i should by the entire assembly from the recycle lot, or just go to the dealer and by the parts that were listed on previous forums from the dealer for a lot less.
So with my year car what is the best route for me to take?
Thank You
Damian

Yeah,
I saw those also on ebay, but can't you buy all of the parts cheaper required for the conversion than $275 from say a dealer such as sunset Porsche?
Also, Does anyone know if the basic locking mechanism including linkage is the same for all 944's and 951's ?

I have done this both ways,all 968 parts & recycle 944 parts.
The only mandatory items are:
-Handle
-gasgets
-Rosette (chromed piece)
-Rosette screw
All other parts can be refit/modify from 944 handles.

I don't think there is a best route. The "right" route for you will depend on how much you're willing to spend. Buying the complete assembly from a donor car ensures you receive all of the parts you need, but the condition of the "used" parts may require you to purchase new components anyway. I picked up a set of handles from PartsHeaven and paid a premium. What they sent me was junk. I wound up purchasing new gaskets and rosettes to complete the project. I'm very satisfied with the outcome and would likely go the same route if I had to do it over again - just make sure you get to see what your buying first!
On a side note - I like the door handles, but the 968 mirrors make a bigger difference. If I could only do one at a time, I'd go with the mirrors first. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Hey Thank's for the help guy's, I have ordered the parts from sunset porsche for a cost of $180.00, but two of the parts are on a month long back order list. But this really makes no difference to me since the car is in storage until April anyway. I also have already done the 968 mirror upgrade, and I would have to agree that the 968 mirror upgrade makes a hell of a difference!
