Post 924 Electric Windows

On my 95 924, the passenger side electric window works with the passenger side switch, but will not work from the one on the drivers door.

I cleaned the contacts on both switches on the drivers door but to no avail.

The drivers side window works fine, but does so when the ignition is off which I thought was odd.

Any thoughts?

Did you put a multimeter on the switch to see if it is completing a circuit? That is a pretty cheaply built switch and your internal contacts may be corroded or bent out of shape. If it is broken inside, it is possible to take it apart and fix it up rather than just buying a new switch. When you see how it is built you will wonder how it ever worked so long in the first place. <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

If the switch is good then I would look for fractured wires inside or just before or after the rubber accordion tube connecting the door and front door jam.

As far as the driver's side window working after you shut off ignition, that is normal. It is designed for people that shut down the engine but forgot to roll up the window. Once you open the door it shouldn't work anymore with ignition off.

Exclamation

here we go again...

on my 84 944 when i first bought it, the switches on the drivers side worked, the passenger side did not. after fiddling with them and whatnot, i found the innards of BOTH switches controlling hte passenger side window had been changed around. if they are not in there properly only ONE will control the window. i suggest taking out the drivers side one, comparing, and making them BOTH like the DS one... this should solve your problem, they open with a screwdriver... be careful not to lose the parts, they are easy to reassemble, but DO NOT SCREW UP THE DRIVER SIDE SWITCH, you need something for reference! good luck! if you need more help let me know i have some new switches to look at and i could email you pics.
