Default Spring rates?

I am getting ready to order some parts for my suspension (87 951), and am trying to find the best torsion bar size. It is a street car that sees frequent autocross use, so I am getting the 250lb front springs and the 968 m030 sway bars. For this setup, what would be a good matching torsion bar size?

On my early car I had 28mm bars to go with the Weltmiester 250# springs. I also had the big adjustable sway bars front and back (Weltmiester again) It was a pretty good combination; I think I prefered that to the KW coilovers I have in the 968.

IIRC A 29mm bar will be ok with your setup. FWIW a 250# ft spring is still a bit soft, if you are doing a lot of AX's you may want to think about going a bit stiffer.

FWIW, I run 350# springs and 30mm bars. I like it pretty good on the track, although might go to 375# or 400# springs in the front. A few years down the road I might even go to something along the lines of a 600# setup, but feel the car would be trailer-only at that point.

The 350/30 combo is actually fairly streetable in my opinion. It is a bit rough on really bad portions (big surface height bumps feel pretty harsh), but normal highway gaps and pot holes aren't bad at all. A lot of the 'harshness' will come down to what bushings and shocks you're running.

+1

I drive my 400#/30mm setup to and from every event I've ever done. After about 2.5 hours it gets a little old, but mostly because my car is stripped and loud as hell.
