Post Boost Guage hook up

If you put a boost guage on the a-pillar, do you have to drill into the space between the windshield and the edge of the dash to get the lines/wires through to ook up the guage, or is there a hole or something to pass through already there? does anone have any detailed pictures of an install?

thanks
mike

I assume you are thinking about the Lo-Tek A-pillar gauge pod. In that case you don't need to drill any holes. The lines from the gauges run behind the gauge pod and down the A-pillar. At the point where the A-pillar meets the dash, remove the small side panel on the dash. This will reveal an opening on the edge of the dash through which you can route all the lines.

Here's a picture of my finished installation. You can see that it is a nice clean installation with no lines visible.

I was thinking of doing a single pod by modifying one for a bmw or something. someone else here has done it and it looked pretty good. if i do that though, it will go over the a-pillar peice that is already there. Does that mean i would have no way of getting the lines through? How is the visibility with the dual pod, and does the A/F guage get annoying with all the lights always blinking?

thanks

I'm guessing, without having seen the pod you're considering, that it can still be done fairly easily. Temporarily remove the piece of factory trim that covers the A-pillar. There are 3 screws holding it in place and the one on the top of the A-pillar is tricky. You can't see that last screw through the screw hole because, for some reason, the screw is off to the side and goes in nearly vertically towards the roof. Probe around and you'll eventually find that third screw.

Next you will have to drill a hole through the trim piece directly under the pod. Then you can run the lines from the gauge inside the A-pillar (there are already some wires running through there to the interior of the car)and through the opening on the side of the dash, as I described before.

And yeah, the blinking lights from the A/F gauge do get annoying at night. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

There is modification that can be done to the gauge so that the gauge reads only the rich zone, which is the region you care about when you are at WOT. That means most of the time, when cruising, the gauge is dark. I can't recall who does the mod, but you can do a search on the 944 Turbo & S forum where I saw it posted.

The other alternative is to add a switch that will shut off the gauge when you don't want it to read.
