Default Rolling on a hill

Parked on a hill today and as I was looking at the car standing still (the car, not me...but i was too) it rolled back about a foot and stopped. I watched it for a few minutes and it did it again. Then I got nervous and ran to put the emergency brake on.

What's going on?

The car was in first gear when it happened.

Do you still have the original rubber center clutch?

I am not sure. I will have to check the PO's receipts.

I don't feel anything different while driving.

There's nothing wrong with your car. the weight of the car is turning the engine. The reason it goes a foot then stops is its hitting the compression of the next cylinder. No big deal if its a bit of an incline.

Mine does the same thing in my driveway.

All 951's had spring centered discs.

ORLY?

maybe a higher gear would be better to park in, for less torque multiplication into the engine (harder to turn over)

Thanks joe. Good to know. It did scare the crap out of me. I was always under the impression that when in gear the car can't move.

Its EASIER to turn the engine over in a higher gear.....try push starting your car in 1st, then try it in 2nd...

where'd you come up with that one V2?

sheesh.

Don't worry man, there's nothing wrong with the clutch...just use the e-brake next time. I leave my car in neutral with the e-brake with ne'er a worry.

It's all fun and games until your e-brake fails - which has happened to me before on a different car. I always put the car in gear and use my e-brake. If I get much more paranoid, I'll be chocking the tires too!
