Here are the symptoms... when I went to engage 1st gear, I heard a pop, the car stayed in gear but would not move. I try other gears, no movement either.
There is some kind of a flapping/slapping noise coming from the back. The speedo still works eventhough the car is at a standstill. So does anybody know what is the cause?
Is it the clutch? That was replaced 30k miles ago by the previous owner.
Is it the CV joints or driveshaft? It seems weird that the speedo would still work even though nothing is moving...
Or finally is it the gearbox?
I am looking to tow it to strictly German in Pasadena for repairs... please give me your suggestions... it is disabled on a street that requires permit parking.

Your half shaft came off. The axle is still probably attached to the trans and causing the knocking sound while the other end is disconnected. If your car is non LSD it will not move in any gear.

how much to fix? I had it towed to a shop... I was near the Rose Bowl so I had it towed to Stricly German. Is there a price range I should look at? Something snapped, so I'm assuming something broke. I hope to hell its not too much, thankgod this thing isn't my only car.

I can guarentee you have at least one cracked bolt in the transmission output flange. You see these things have a tendancy to back themselves out, now when there is only one bolt left (out of 6) they tend to snap under pressure. The same happened to me a while back at the track, except I had it worse. Several of the bolts backed out over time. While I was pulling real hard I cracked the three bolts that were left. I Had the transmission replaced because the flange was extensively damaged. But im sure your condition is not as bad.
