Post Porsche script cloth for seats.

I have been looking for an interesting way to restore my 944's seats (saddle brown interior). Someone mentioned that in the 80's it was possible to have the Porsche logo on cloth interiors... And what's more, there is a firm in the UK that carries this cloth for sale.

So I am thinking of recovering my interior in Porsche script cloth. Does anyone have this option on their car? If you, can you please post a photo? The UK company is sending me a cloth sample, but photos of the cloth installed would be very helpful.

Right now I don't even know the name of the company, but do have their email address: southbound@ukgateway.net.

I have corresponded with a Mr. Nunn.... He says the brown Porsche script cloth is color code TPC 000 000 00 7NZ and it costs "£46.00 per metre."

(I don't yet know how many 'metres' it will take to recover the seats.)

I have asked him (via email) how many metres will be necessary to do the whole job...and will post his response as soon as it arrives.

I have it in my 944S. It is nice but I hate to think what I will have to do if it ever wears out! I'm sure a few years down the road it will be quite dearly priced. Possibly not a bad investment to buy a bolt and hoard it for the restorers 20 years from now. Look at what simple things for 356's command.

Anyhow I don't have a quick easy way to post a picture but if you can find the book "The 1974-1989 911, 912E & 930 Porsche Authenticity Series" by Mark Haab, there is a picture of a seat with "25 Anniversary Logo Cloth" in b&w on page 78. By the way I don't know if this is the same stuff, but I remember reading about someone doing a restoration involving one of these special fabrics. They contacted the Porsche Factory about obtaining some and were told "not only don't we have any but if you find a bolt of it, we'll buy it from you." Isn't 46/meter something like $80/yard?

I actually have the script cloth covering the middle of my seats. It looks very nice, and it covers everything except for the bolsters. Hoarding some of it would be a good idea too...

Try <a href="http://www.lemansoriginalfabrics.com" target="_blank">www.lemansoriginalfabrics.com</a>

Company is in New Zealand but stock the various OE fabrics and have very small swatch pics on their site. They are getting some linen pin stripe cloth for me and have been very helpful.

Cheers,

Thanks for the tip on Le Mans fabrics. I was kinda shocked to see the original pinstripe material...many upholstery places have told me that it is impossible to find! This looks like a great resource.

I will get prices from these guys too.

I found them by chance, as they appeared on about page 40 of a Google search. Seemed an odd place in the World for it, but they could be a potential Alladin's Cave.

Le Mans quoted me a price of $75 US per meter for the pinstripe fabric (and these prices presumably apply to the other Porsche cloth).

I have the Porsche script cloth in the middle parts of my seats too. It doesnt wear out BTW. I think it looks really cool. Plus, its comfy, doesnt make leather noises, doesnt stick to you in the summer, and doesnt crack like leather. I love it. Anyone ever see the checkered seats offered in early (we're talkin '82) euro 944s??? Psychedelic.

Is that the Pasha cloth that was in the old 911s too? Kind of trippy if you stare at it too long.

Yeah, if the seats themselves didn't SUCK OUT LOUD the cloth would be great <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" /> I wish I could remove the cloth from my Turbo S seats and cover the Momo Street Racer's I plan to buy w/it, and after having had the cloth for awhile, I really like it better than leather...

Sean-
If you haven't found somone to post a pic for you in the next few days, let me know, and I'll see if I can get a friend w/a digital camera to help me take a pic or two of mine- I think it looks really nice- mine are black, but I'd like to go to white, maybe w/black bolsters, oh yeah, and uh, maybe some LOWER BACK SUPPORT w/the seats being wider at the shoulders than at the waist- I really like the two-tone look of the white and black interiors from back then, and that sample you posted pics of, the white w/script looks really nice too...

These seats with the porsche-porsche cloth were used not only in the 944 but the 924s also. That interior to the best of my knowledge used the script cloth only on the front and rear seats.I've seen it in grey in the 924s quite often and the maroon color in the 86-944 a number of times also.I have several sets that I saved .Once in awhile you see them on ebay.As was pointed out they seem to wear like iron.Audi had the same set up with the quattro-quattro script.
