Post comments on running 215/50/15 on 944 n/a

im looking at the pirelli p7000's. the closest size they come to from what i want is 215/50/15. is there going to be a large difference from the 60 profile im running now? is this size recommended or is it a bad idea. what tires are you guys running? please help, i need to pass inspection and my tires are dry-rotting!!

That tire is gonna be way too short. I don't think anyone really makes a 225/55-15 or 215/55-15 tire so you'll have to go with either the stock 215/60-15 or you can bump the width a bit to 225/50-15. Lots of 944 guys are running the 225's [including myself] but others don't like the look because the WD is a little shorter and looks odd to them. It looks fine to me so I've been running this size for years.

I fall into the catagory for people who think the 225/50-15 looks too small in the wheel well, mostly because it is too small. if you want a 225 width, a 225/60 is a closer fit, and it won't throw off your odometer and speedo as much IIRC. If you prefer to stay with a stock size, or even if you don't, there are other tires out there to choose from, the P7000s were nice in their day but back then the Porsche showrooms still had 944s in 'em.

Yes, they're excellent tires. If they introduced a more modern tread pattern and still made them I'd never buy anything else for my 944.

My track tires are the Yokahama AVS Intermediates, sized 225/50/15. They're perfect for street and track..... too bad they're a discontinued series. The Falken's are producing some really nice tires in the 215/50 and 225/50 series. Worth a look. And then, the great value tire.... Kuhmo's exsta 712's. Sweet tire in all conditions for a really great price (around $100.00 each).

225/50/15's are fine in the wheel wells. I've lowered my ride by 1.5" with new springs and shocks, so the fit is perfect.
