Question Oil on TOP of engine?

OK, I drove the thing to work this morning and saw the smallest amount of smoke so I popped the hood. There's a little bit of oil on top of the cam tower, on the end nearest the distributor. A little on the plug wires. A little on the outside of the P/S reservoir. A little on the fuel rail. I can't see where it's coming from. Any ideas where to look or what might be causing this?

...and the beat goes on....

Never mind, it's not oil, it's orange coolant (looks like oil, feels greasy, but it's not). Found a busted hose clamp. Guess I'm off to the auto parts store at lunch...

Sorry to irritate you, Perry. My first post was because I was genuinely puzzled and concerned. If I can't ask a question about an oddball failure on this board, what else should I be posting about?

Perry,

I emailed you offline but don't know that you got it. I'm just right down the street from you. Thought that I would drop a line and say hi. I wouldn't mind seeing the car to go along with the story some time!

Jason

If you have time e-mail me offline. "Jwchance@hotmail.com"

NO NO NO.. sorry Thad. You took that the wrong way. I was displaying your anger for the broken hose clamp. Kinda like the %#%*@ snap ring.

Jason - good to hear from you. I have not checked my e-mail yet, but will. When it hits the road, you are more than welcome to go for a ride, or stop by for a beer.

Thad:

I think Perry meant that he would post the to indicate the frustration that you must be feeling. I don't think he was irritated at your question.

I'm feeling pretty frustrated myself at my car.

OK. I did misunderstand. And yes, the car is bugging me. I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to replace every hose, tube, pipe, clamp and so on as a pre-emptive measure pretty soon. The fun never stops at the fun factory...

Thaddeus,

Did you figure out the PS fluid leak from last week? Or are you wrestling it around the parking lot? Good luck with the leaks.

It was a power steering hose, the one that flares where it joins the reservoir. The hose had busted right at the flare. $32.00 for the special hose at my friendly local Porsche dealer. Not too bad.
