Intermittent Cruise Control - 1987 944
I have a problem with a cruise control that works about one third of the time. If I start the car and the cruise is operating, it will keep working all day until I turn off the ignition (above the minimum speeds of course). When I start up and it doesn't work there is nothing that will get it to work, unless I switch off the ignition and take another roll of the dice. It is as if when I start up, a contact is made or not made, thus making the cruise active or inactive. Maybe a relay? Except I do not believe a relay is involved in the cruise wiring. ANY IDEAS PLEASE?

I have this same problem in my 87 944 S. I've seen other posts say this:
There's a silver box fastened under the dash on the inside of the fender on the driver's side. Apparently if you remove this and re-solder all the connections, it will repair the problem.
Good luck.

Two questions about the resoldering process:
1. If I pull out the cruise control brain, does everything else still work, or do I have to park the car until I get it back together?
2. Am I just heating the existing solder to re-establish the connection or should I add more solder to the joint? And if so, what type of solder should I use?
I guess it's really 3 questions. Thanks!
