Reviving this one...

I broke the horseshoe! Was trying to pull a stubborn bearing tonight and bent the front bar of the horseshoe far enough to fracture a weld:



So, in looking through this thread where you guys all have newer SIR tool sets than the one I'm using, it's clear to me that they changed the design. The new front bar on the horseshoe is much more stout.

Then, I noticed they changed the numbering and sizes of the pressing plates also.

Anyone out there want to measure these for me? Mine are approximately 66mm (#7) & 74mm (#8)

Skip, I also bent the bar on my SIR TOOLS Horseshoe - had to beat it back flat with big hammer. In general I found the steel used in this tool set to be too soft for its intended application. The large hex nut is easy to "round off" due to its softness.

Man, maybe I just got lucky or something but mine just zipped right out and zipped right back in. No tool damage or difficulty. Did either of you guys use an impact wrench/gun on your tool? You know the instructions say not to. I can measure the disks when I get home tonight skip but I am almost certain that #12 is within a millimeter or 2 of the bearing diameter.
