Who has the earliest USA '83 944?

Mine is:
WP0AA0944DN451691
Your guys are kindof weird. I was under the impression that the 7,8, and 9th numbers designate the model, like mine, 944.
I'm thinking that it is the last 4 digits that make up the number. Even that kinda sounds high if you think about it. An '83 model being made that early in product. I didn't think they made that many that early.

That 9th digit is a check number Tim.. The 94 is what designates it as a 944. It's just a random thing that yours says 4 there.
It would make sense that your car is number 1691 and mine is number 2264. 83 TX 944s would be 7223 and was made in Jan of 83. My theory on Jakes vin is that his car was made in mid 83 and the serial number at the end of the vin goes from 45xxxx to 40xxxx when production rolled over 10,000. We'll know better when he posts the manufacturing date.

It's the last FOUR digits.

720 is possibly one of the first into the US.

Except his is not a US-spec car.
He has a Euro. Either way thats cool to have such a low number.

Heather (as i call her) was born on 3/83, all the 83 cars had manual steering (i beleive, at least it was optional) and i have no idea about the embossed door panels (i wish i could have em)
she's not the youngest, but she's beautiful (zermatt silver), and i love her.
Mike, going out to the garage to peek under the cover

So far, of the people who have supplied thier vin and born on date, we have this data:
4/82 - 1030
5/82 - 51691
6/82 - 52264
1/83 - 57223
4/83 - 61248
???? - 400720 (Jake, what's your born on date?)
I'll bet the last 5 have something to do with the sequence and not just the last 4. Platypus's vin is probably ending in 451030.
Anybody else have an 82/83 that they can share thier vin and date of manufacture?

Okay, I don't KNOW the manufacture date / born-on date. I wish I did, but the engine bay doesn't have all the markings it supposedly should have - though I'm not convinced they were there in the first place.
According the link posted above on the vin decoder, it's the last four digits that are the serial. That would put me pretty damn early in production.
As an anecdote, the Department of Motor Vehicles had a hard time with my vin at first. When I went to register they initially said that the car didn't exist. But since it was an 83, I thought that had to be wrong. Eventually they gave me a special contact person and he figured it out (who knows how?).
I'm dreaming of that my baby is a slightly more valuable NA than I realized - can you tell???
