My first auto-x
Well, today I ran in my first auto-x.Boy did I really suck, cause I wasn't prepared at all. I ran ran in the mid 60's but I know I could've done better if I had actually known what my car was capable of.Plus the car I took was bone stock with really crappy 215/60/15's on it.
This week I'm shopping for tires and know this question has been run into the ground but what are a good size for auto-x'ing?
My friend took only a couple of pics of me and most of them sucked even though I got nearly 20 pics of his rice-mobile but here are a couple of pics anyway.
My friends car is the miata, total rice, no mods only the body kit and wheels.

The stock size is fine, just get some decent tires. You could go to 225/60-15 if you want, but I don't really think 225/50-15 is a good idea (I posted a LONG explanation of this in a recent thread).
Don't worry about your performance yet, everyone sucks the first few times (fortunatly, the local PCA region has seperate rookie and veteran classes). After your first 2-4 events, you'll get a feel for it, something will click, and your times will start to improve.
Good luck!
EDIT; I forgot, if you have the $, go for 16" wheels and 225/50-16. This should keep you in the stock classes, as 16" was available from the factory, and if your car is an '86 or earlier look for some Fuchs, very light for the $ and you WILL feel the improvement in handling! It's tough to find a better mod than a big reduction in unsprung weight

If you have a 7" wide rear rim, I think 225 is as wide as you want to go. With a 16x8" rim you could go to a 245/45-16, I don't know what a 15x8" would use.
In my own experience, I went from 15x7" PDs with crappy tires, to 7&8x16" Fuchs (911 rear offset) with RE-730s in 205/55-16 front and 225/50-16 rear. I highly recommend this set-up, After 1 year, only about 4000 miles, but 9 days of autocross, they still have plenty of life left in 'em. If they ever do wear out, I'm going with 225s in the front, and I might try the 245s in the rear.

Yeah listen to Dave, he really rips it up on the course. I'm even coming very close to his times... except for the fact that I "have an extra 100hp." hehe
AutoX is a whole lot of fun, after a few more events things will definetely click in and you will do much better. Try and find local PCA events so you to compete against other 944s in your class. Gluck
