Well man, if May rolls around and nobody has bought this thing, and I get put up at the sub base in Washington (that's where this thing is, right, WA state?) then I guess I'll have myself a car picked out. Hope somebody buys it before then! It looks like you're really understating the great condition of the interior. Good luck.

Tom R. said,
bottom line - KBB doesnt have its finger on the pulse of 944/951s.
I agree for the most part with that statement and was alluding to that fact with some of my statements regarding "special" maintenance. Because the timing belt failure is catastrophic, and pretty expensive to have replaced as prevention, none of us would purchase without adjusting the price up or down to reflect this.

The real problem is that the majority of these cars are probably in poor condition, dragging down the average prices, meaning that there is a huge difference between poor, good, and excellent cars. Sounds like you found an excellent example Tom.

I bought a nicely sorted and maintained '91 S2, with 78k miles for $8k. It wasn't the cleanest car (until it came into my possession), but man...not a bad deal at all. Bought my '87 951 for $10k with 98k miles. It's been maintained...but again, not extremely clean and lots of corroded parts under the hood (a nightmare!).

It's amazing what cleaning your car prior to purchase will do for the price. My S2 would have commanded another 2k had it been as clean as I got it to.

Also, I wouldn't go off Nada or KBB. Those are more typically used on your Hondas, Toyotas, and Domestics. I know for a fact, due to insurance valuing my wrecked S2 at $11.9k. That was minus 993 Hollows, B&B cat-back, saratoga top, and hatch. Not bad at all. Insurance actually did me some good. I came out smelling like a rose!

In the end, I would love to have this car, but I have nowhere to store it...
