Default What gear lube are you running?

I switched to Mobil1 75W90 last year and while it definitely smoothed out the shifts, once it gets warm, it allows a lot of that first gear rattle sound. If I have to have the rattle to enjoy the smooth shifts, I'll take it; but I'd love to have both.

I run the mobil synthetic with no noises, it actually quieted down a slight bearing noise in the transmission. Shifts alot better all around with synthetic.

I am running royal purple. It might be a little much in the winter but it works great in the summer.

Lol yeah I had to think about it for a minute as I have 2 different types of Redline trans/gear oil on the shelf...well 3 if you count the ATF.

I put the 75w90NS in my car without LSD. For LSD transmissions I use MT90. This is from their site:

75W90 NS

This GL-5-type geal oil doesn't contain the friction modifiers for limited-slip hypoid differentials. This makes the transmission synchronizers come to equal speeds more quickly, allowing faster shifting and much easier low-temperature shifting. Can also be used in racing limited-slip differentials where weak spring design causes too much wheel spin.

MT-90

Popular in Nissan, Toyota and Mazda manual transmissions and transaxles as well as other selected applications, this is a 75W90 GL-4 Gear Oil that’s slightly heavier than MTL. Provides excellent protection of gears and synchronizers and its balanced slipperiness provides a perfect coefficient of friction, allowing easier shifting.

Redline heavy shockproof in my 944 Spec race car box and 944 Turbo S street car box.

I change gearoil in the race car every couple seasons. Turbo S once in about 5-6 years ago. I don't drive it that much though.

Royal Purple GearMax 75W90 GL4 and GL5 rated. Have tried Swepco 201 and RL 75W90. Never tried the RL MT90. After Royal Purple gear knock in neutral appears to be gone in the S2. Have RL 75W90NS in the 924S.
