Post I put my wheels on a scale

Just in case anyone is interested;

As it was OK out today, I used the opportunity to clean my summer wheels before putting them away for the winter. I figured I could weigh them so as to have a comparison #. It's not the most scientific instrument in the world but it was the only thing I could find, the bathroom scale would have to do, besides it says I weigh 220 most days and last month my doctor said 216 so figure 2% error.

The front wheels are 16x7" 911 Fuchs (rumored to be 1 lb heavier than 951 Fuchs), the tires are 205/55-16 Bridgestone RE-730s (after 2 years, 20 days of AutoX, 2 days of DE and 8000 miles the tread is around 50% in the center, the shoulders are round)
Both wheels weighed in at 36 lbs

The rear wheels are also 911 Fuchs, 16x8", 10.3mm offset (also rumored to be 1 lb heavier than 951 wheels) the tires are the same brand/model but the size is 225/50-16 (60-65%tread remaining)
One wheel weighed in at 39 lbs, the other was 40 lbs (more air in it I guess <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" /> )

And my 17x8 with a 235 weighed in at 50lbs...im gonna go cry now....

Oh well, 17x8 and 17x9 with rubber left on the tires for $700 incl shipping....not too shabby.

You have to expect some extra weight just because they're 17"s Adrial, but that does sound like quite a bit. I'm still looking for tires for my CCs ($252.50 shipped, 15.5 lbs each), I may end up getting new V700s (&lt;$500 shipped from Tirerack)which would put me at $700-750 for the set. IIRC the Kuhmos are around 21 lbs, so my unsprung weight shouldn't be much different.

Dave,

Just curious if you had any problems with clerance over the brake calipers or any other fit problems using 911 Fuch's versus 951 Fuch's? I've heard that the 951 style has a bit more clearance for the calipers. If they work OK, this will help widen up my choices a bit. Thanks.

I've heard the same thing, but it's not a problem for me, I have an NA which I have heard has the same front brakes as a 911 (SC?). The rear offset was the thing for me as the 85.5 and 86 cars don't have the rear spacer, just bolted them on and my wheelwell was filled.
