I'm looking for a clean 951 or 944-S2 which has been well maintained. Prefer in North Carolina or close.
Thanks

Is this AL? What's up, my man?
How's the 924 business? Are you still putting together the Top Secret project in the pre-catalyst shell?
I'm starting something similar myself!

Well,
I looked at an 89 S2 today, Body was OK but interior was rough, it had some oil leaks and tranny leaks but ran good. But it just didnt put a grin on my face like a 951. And get this...the guy advertised "all maint records with major service just completed" but couldnt 'find' any receipts.
So I think I will be leaning more toward a 951.
Whats the deal with the 1986's ? Any Problems?
Thanks

I drive thru Winterville on my way back to school all the time. Matter of fact, I will be driving thru there in about 2 hours.
Let me know when you find a 944. The PCA club for this region has several 944 nuts in it.
I'm thinking an ENC drive once dooberhead-man gets his 951 up to par and you get your 951 period.

Al,
welcome to what I went through looking for my 944.
On a friday night I dragged my wife and mechanic an hour drive to look at a late 85 944 with new belts no paintwork, and always garaged.
got to the guys house and heres what we found
leaves under the hood from sitting under a tree
hood freshly painted
pitted halfshafts and loose CV joints
loose front end
brown headlights
stiff leather
no records
owner couldnt explain how he got a dent that was painted with touch up on bottom of wheel well
should i go on
when my mechanic saw my S2 in the dealers warehouse/showroom under flourescent lights he saw factory paint still on halfshafts, porsche stickers on every body panel, soft leather, etc.
dealer disclosed carfax problem (4k difference) and had some backup to substantiate the mileage was correct.
mechanic says to me if i took the so called 851/2 for free and put the $$ into the car to get 200 hp and the turbo suspension in an NA i would spend more than the dealer was asking, which was top dollar, and have a lesser car. he spoke wisdom from experience with his Merkur XR4Ti that was worked, and in his words less of a car than my stock S2.
needless to say i bought the S2. I then learned that the 944s are due for a minor rebuild every 60/70k (belts & rollers 1000, clutch 1200, shocks 750 and the list goes on)
Good luck in your hunt.

I know what ya mean, I may be renting a car and driving to DC Friday to look at another. That way I can leave the rental and drive the new one back.
I hate to drag my wife all over, she never complains, but isnt much of a car nut.
But I plan on taking my time.
