Default Ebay Short Shifter = Crap

I was on my way to work this morning, and suddenly had no gears.
I knew instantly it was the shift linkage, because I had just installed the short shifter 1 month ago.
I thought a bolt had backed it's way out, even though I locktite-d everything and safety-wired the bolt into the shift rod.

Got it towed to work, and after work, went to work.

This is what I found:

What a piece of crap. It broke right at the weld between the shaft and the "plate".

This is the ebay company and brand I purchased:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-Porsche-944-9...QQcmdZViewItem

I've sent them an email seeing if they will honor the "1 Year Manufacturers Warranty".
We'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

Wow I just bought the same kit and sold the other one. Maybe I'll braze that spot some more before installing it. There are a few others here that have been using it for years. Hopefully yours was just a bad welding job and not par for the course. Yours looks like the weld didn't even go all the way around the pin.

I purchased the same item from ebay in 2007! It lasted for about a month and I soon returned to the stock version.

I also took a Dremel and shaved off 1.5 inches of the stock gear shifter(inside car).

Still no response to my email from this company.

I just sent them a much less polite follow-up email.

My recommendation is to buy a Schnell short shifter, or at a minimum, reinforce the welds on the ebay short shifter before installing.

My $60 ebay shifter ended up costing me $160 anyways because I had to get a tow after my car was left stranded by this piece of crap.

Lesson learned....

OMG! That looks more like a braze than a weld!

even if they honor the warranty, I think I'd be putting it onto ebay rather than my car, after going through all that hassle

peace

maybe one of our support venders carry one (they would stand behind it) and we would be supporting our supporters, might cost a bit more but then they have more pull with their suppliers as thy stand to lose if they don't make it right for us.
Don't get me wrong I order stuff from Ebay and there are great deals to be had but stuff like this maybe one of our support venders
just my 2 cents
