Justin S2: I have the weltmeister and It has been good so far. I would not reccomend the Schnell one as it messes with the location of your gears. Even when properly adjusted 1st is where 3rd should be and so on. The wlt does not ahve this problem.

If 1st is where 3rd should be, is 3rd where 5th should be ? There should be some adjustment on the linkage at the tranny for side to side location of your lever.

The Automotion/Performance Products (Weltmeister) short shift is very similar to the one shown here.
Clean off the old broken weld. Fit the pieces back together, Dremel a 1/8" wide x 1/16" deep slot where the yellow line is, and drop a short piece of 1/8" square steel rod into the slot and braze the whole thing back together.
Clean the heim joint and lube it really well (I used a clear synthetic grease that is really slippery and doesn't thin out)
Use locktight on the bolt threads where the blue arrows are, as well as the set screw that locks the shift tube to the shifter rod. It's a good idea to replace the safety wire on that set screw also.
The elongated hole (red oval) allows side to side adjustment of your shift lever.

Funn944: Yes that is correct. 5th gear was up against the edge of the whole in the center console for the shift lever. And I had the slide on the linckage as af as it could go in the direction to center the shift lever (Red circled hote). The Schnell Short Shifter was put together in correctly.

The Weltmeister when I installed it did not have the same problem and I was able to adust it so the shifter was centered correctly. (the Red circles slot piece was correct)

I really can't understand why you guys have so much problems with your short shifter, such as the 1st where 3rd should be ect ect, like mention before I install mine about five years ago ,even though I never DIY the job before everything when as smooth as melting butter in a frying pan, took me about an hour & a half with the car on jack stand & the muffler remove. On a hoist it will be a breeze to do ,1st-second-3rd -fourth -fifth & reverse is where they should be & my shifter in the car is perfectly center & still is after all them years of course prior to installing the short shifter I replace the bushing at the bottom & also got a new shifter lever since the shift lever pin that connect to the rod was on the bum,so I'm I missing something here.Exemple of a short shifter with tranny out of the car.

Ernie, After I got a short shift kit that was correctly built I was able to get my gear locations to line up to where they should be. It was justa poorly designed short shift kit that let to my problems.

WHen I replaced it with a good one I was fine.

You know, when you get a properly penetrating weld between the upright and the shaft, if that heim is teflon lined....it is toasted.....if it's not a teflon heim.... then it is a joke like the mookeh plates from factory LOL.
Get one with a removable circlip that can be taken out of the heim. At least that one had some forethought put into the design.
