Such important parts as a shifter linkages either OE replacement or short shifter kit should be bougth from a reliable source (mine a Schnell was from Vertex a RL sponsor whitch will honor their warranty) at that time six years back the price was I beleive around $120.00,now price has come down on them $99.00,why settle for crapy Ebay parts. When properly install it should last for years & their is no reason for it to fall apart like it happen to the one Jon had.

yeeh but the schnell shifter looks just as handmade as the ebay shifter.
if i buy the ebay shifter and improve the welds on it it´s probably as good as the schnell??
This is a nice one but more then 3 times as expensive

Yes three time as expensive but how much would it cost you if you have to get your car tow away plus maybe get into an accident on the HWY ,do you think saving a couple bucks is worth it .I'm a welder by trade & will tell you something even if you do reinforce weld it if the metal witch the shifter is made off is crap all will happen is it will simply brake somewhere else.

I bought a Weltmeister from a guy on pelican (usually sells for $200 on automotion.) I haven't installed it yet because I have heard bad stories about the eBay knockoffs and the bolts falling off on these shifters sometimes. Does anyone run a Weltmeister, and if you do has anyone had problems like this?

Lol your eyes migth see the Schnell as handman as the one on Ebay, but tell you what buy both then get the metal Xray like the do on weld test & I'm 100% sure that would find quiet a difference in the metal. What your eyes are seeing is a cheap replica of the Schneel.

It never ceases to amaze me that:
1) people skimp on critical areas of the car, while spending stupid money on non-critical areas..

or

2) that threads from 3 years ago get brought back and become all the rage!

People, before installing parts on your car, ask yourself what could happen if this part fails? If the word die comes to mind, make sure the part is the best you can get, or just don't install it...

+1 they would drive around with rotten & rusty fuel lines but $3,000K of fancy wheels on their car ,guest look is more important than safety for some of them.

I´m sorry John that i made you your head

I´m sorry for the bump, I though it was better then starting a new thread.

I was just wondering if the ebay kit was getting any better but it seems it hasn´t.

Don´t everyone want quality but at a good price and how is you gonna know if you or someone else don´t try it.
If you have a small budget then every penny counts
But of course you can´t sacrifice safety.

I will skip the ebay kit and buy a better one or build my own.

peace out my porsche colleagues

I have one of these shifters from Performance Products, which I think comes from Weltmeister. Mine had the same failure. I fitted it back together, cut a slot across the end of the rod and plate, dropped a piece of steel rod in the slot then brazed the whole end. Clean it up, lube the rod end really well, and it has not been a problem since. Be sure and use Locktight on all the threaded parts including the bolt that goes through the plate into the rod end.
