Default Help: 944S2 Electrics questions (alarm, seats, airbags, etc)

First off, I'll be honest and admit I am not the best technician of all things electronic. I have a simple understanding on the subject and that's about it. With that said, I am prepping my car for track use. The following items have been removed from the car:

1. All audio system bits including speakers, head unit, etc.
2. All OE seating
3. All airbags

I am under the impression that I can simply remove all the wiring for each of these items all the way back to the fuse panel without effecting any other major components. Is this a correct assumption?

Now, I found the factory alarm module. If I remove the box and all associated wiring, will it effect the running of the car? Also, I am assuming that I can remove the airbag module and delete the entire wiring without effecting an major component. Is this correct?

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

I would imagine that if the alarm module is removed, it needs to be bypassed. That being said, I am sure that some of the other racers here have removed the module personaly and have first hand data for you.

Hey Spidey...

That's what I am hoping for. Before I have to break out the manual...etc, etc.

Chad

Either here or at Pelican (where he's a mod on the 944 board) you should reach out for Z-man.

Joe

Chad,
You can remove all of the wiring you have mentioned and be O.K. except for the alarm. Well, you can cut it back to the fuse box and you will have to splice some wires together in order for the car to run. You can check Clark's garage.com for the wires that need to be jumped and then just splice them near the fuse box.

I removed all that stuff and associated wiring. Jumped what I thought needed jumping back by the fusebox. Car didn't run. Took me a week and a half to get it all figured out. To this day I still don't know what I did wrong or what I did to fix it but haven't had any problems since.

I guess what I am saying is...use caution. The ignition, alarm wiring, and airbag wiring are all interconnected. I took my time, jumped what seemed appropriate, but screwed up somewhere.

If you think stripping your interior is frustrating.......

I'd remove the components and be happy at that. Scope creep has a way of making this more work than necessary:

I have removed all wiring from the rear of the car forward to the fuse panel. IE, brake pad sensors, sunroof motor wiring, hatch motor wiring, rear wiper wiring, etc. Some of the components that are not removed use common grounds with those that are, so you literally just have to trace back a wire at a time. Its pretty amazing the amount of wiring you can pull from the interior of a race prepped car. I'll go after the front of the car under the dash once I pull the dash to replace it.
