Post URGENT HEADLIGHT HELP (iceshark?)

i was stopped 4 times last nite for missing one head light.

the fuses are fine, i cant find any relays for the headlights either.

high beams work fine but for some reason the left headlight doesnt function on low beam. bulb is fine as well. even tried a different bulb but NOTHING.

any ideas?

Hey Shaun, the same thing happened to me one low beam wasn't working but the high beams worked, I replaced the lenses and bulbs and still no change. Turned out the wires for one of the low beams had been slowly cut by the lights going up and down, wire strippers and some electrical tape fixed my problem.
Hope yours is this simple!

I've got another lighting problem:

Turn on high beams = no lights at all
Turn on fog lights = no fog lights
And, my drivers side light will only go up far enough to point about 10' in front of the car - got some fender damage that is taking up the space it needs.

I think the first two are caused by either a bad relay or a wiring problem. It's too cold right now to mess with it, but after I get the body damage fixed & I'm in my garage at home, it'll get fixed.

i have had the same problem, cept my foglight on the same side doesn't work either, i checked the wires and cannot SEE anything wrong with them. I had a 100w fog light instead of a 50 for like 3 days, could that have fried the wires and i just cant see anything wrong, what do you guys suggest i do?

does anyone have a picture of which wire controls the low beam and the fog light, i know they are wrapped together in one thing but i'll cut it open and rewire the 2 that i burnt i guess...if it comes to taht. Are they different colors?

Shaun, the headlights do not have ANY relays so don't bother looking for 'em. As noted, I would suspect a fractured wire in the section that flexes when the buckets go up and down, provided you are not running overwatted bulbs (then you could have burned a wire out anywhere) and have checked the fuses. You know there are 4 fuses for the headlights - one for each side and beam, right?

Turn the headlights on and squish and wiggle the light harness a little section at a time. If you make the light go on, then you know the location of the fracture.

Scootin, if you have factory fogs they will not light up if the high beams are on. They only work on low. Fogs do have a relay which could be bad. If you checked the 2 high beam fuses, then I would start thinking a switch.

Andre, does the other fog with the 100 watt bulb work still? Possible you could have burned out wires but I would first check the bulb. 100 watt H3s have a T-characteristic of 100 hours, that is when 63% of the bulbs have failed. But if you had a bad bulb it can burn out pretty quick if you are using it much. You shouldn't be running 100 watt in a fog lens anyway.

yea i know, i only had it in for 3 days, and the other fog light has a 55w bulb in it. The whole drivers side works fine. but the fog and the headlight dont work on the passanger.

First check all the fuses then put a new 55 watt bulb in the fog. If the situation is the same there is one common point for the headlight and fog for just one side, the frame rail ground located down under by the bucket on the rail. Check what is going on there.

If it is that, your high beam won't work either. I'd make a bet on the ground being the problem. Or you somehow managed to cut the whole loom to that side.
