Post Some Problems with 89' 951. Please Help!

#1: Car won't start. It will crank but won't even think about catching. Had a mechanic take a look, battery was replaced but still did the same. He looked in the fuse box and wired the fuse for the fuel pump sender (slot 34) and the wiper/washer motor fuse (slot 24) together and the damn thing started right up. If I remove this connection which is a simple wire, the car won't start again. Question is, what the heck does this mean and by doing this, what did he bypass? I'm wondering if it is the DME relay but if this was malfunctioning, what he did should not have worked. I'm puzzled. Also, is this bad to drive the car with this setup until the actual problem is found?

#2: The previous owner took out the guages to replace a non-functional speedometer and when he put everytihng back on, the Check engine light, seatbelt light, and airbag light stay on indefinitely. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

Thanks

Fuse 24 receives power from relay "X" (G14) whenever the ignition switch is in accessory or on position. Fuse 34 receives power from the DME relay whenever the ignition is on. Your mechanic just found a creative way to jumper the DME relay (G5) using G14.

It shouldn't cause any harm to run this way, but depending which sides of the fuses he wired together you may not have fuse protection on your fuel pump, or you may blow Fuse 24 whem you run your wipers and engine together. I would replace the DME relay ASAP. (Buy two and carry a spare; if you don't need it you may find a pretty girl with a stalled 944/911 at the side of the road. I will probably find Rich Sandor or Wagz.)

As for the airbag, achtung , and seatbelt lights, the airbag needs to be reset. Do a search for airbag light and you'll see a lot of hits.
