Default S2 vs. 951 Prices?

Out of curiosity, which model commands more in the used marketplace? Given 2 944s, one a turbo, the other an S2 with similar options, mileage, maintenance history, etc, which model is worth more now? I get the feeling that 951s are in higher demand, but there are also more of them out there, right? So in the real world which model commands more money on the open market?

I would say 951 but If one was a 1989, that might be worth more

From prices I've seen the S2 in same condition, options and mileage ($3k just for a used S2 motor and the tranny has the stronger ring and pinion) tends to get a higher price than a normal Turbo (they are more rare) but the '89 and Turbo S models command the highest prices.

A 951 gives you more options to modify vs S2 considering the engine. I think it was correctly stated that condition will be the weighing factor. Both have their quirks.

If we went ahead and said 88 non S turbo 100k good interior/exterior, original red/black/white/silver paint, maint records, recent timing belt/water pump/front engine seals, turbo not worn out

vs

89 944 S2 100k good interior/exterior, original red/black/white/silver paint, maint records, recent cam chain tensioner, water pump, timing belt, front engine seals

I would say based on recent sales prices I've seen that the 951 would have the upper hand on the S2 by around 2 to 3 grand.

Thanks Josh. That answers my question. That indicates to me that even though supply of the 951 is greater, their demand must be even greater than the less plentiful S2.

there was a board member that sold a 30k mile S2 for huge money about a year ago. over 15 iirc.

you are comparing a 86-88 turbo to a 89-91 S2. condition and mileage are the main factors. there is a 147k mile S2 here for 6k, and one of the members with a slightly modified 951 had a hard time getting 10 or 12 for his 951 with less miles and some extras.

bottom line, it is a crap shoot. i think i paid more for my stock 90 S2 with 68k miles than i sold my worked 88 turbo with receipts for 20k of recent work.
