old 911/ race car tricks- put your gauges so that at speed everything points straight up- so the tach is in the sweet spot, the speedo is up near 100mph etc... i did that to my 914 but just the tach - also sometimes you cant see the gauges through the aftermarket steering wheel so you adjust it so that you can see the needles at average speeds like 35-75 or something.

because I can't tell if the gauge itself is like that, or you made a copy of it and reversed it so you could mount it like that
sorry
but I really like the white on black gauges from 924's and I think going with a black/red theme of the car like most, the yellow kind of sticks out
also are 924 gauges brighter then our's or? can be swaped with LED's ?

ah, I should lighten up, then.
The gauges are twisted so the relevant portion of the dial is most visible. Especially the tach which, if put in normally, would have the rpm up to 4500rpm obscured. It's an "old racer trick", which am not nor is my car. They just look cool.

Here's a pic of the early 924 tach installed in my dash. I love it. It's much easier to see without taking your eyes off the road. It'll look even better with some flat lenses, eh?
Oh, and I know I need to vacuum.

Flat glass looks much better than the cones. I did this many years ago on my old '84. Back then, FR Wilk was making glass disks to replace the cones. IIRC, the black ring is a metal bezel that needs to be pryed up along the edges all the way around before removing. Once the bezel is bent back the ring pulls straight off.

Dan, I always thought that tach looked funky when I saw it on a shelf but now that I see it installed I "get it" and it looks cool, especially in the middle like that.
Putting the multigauge on the right would be very hard since the wiring harness for that gauge won't even reach to the middle, let alone to the right.
Gloriaredstang, I know what you mean about gauge obstruction on these early dash's. I hate how I can never see the temp gauge (which is something I need to watch on my car), or 80-100mph (which is what my speed usually is). I can see the tach fine though but maybe that's just my particular height.
When I do my 924 gauges next, I will blacken and replace the numbers on the tach upside down - so then I can mount the tach upside down and it will look normal! And then I won't be able to see 4k-redline! But it will look cool (when you crane your neck)! Yes!

While you have the combination switches off, I recommend a "mod" which should have been put on all 944 dashboards. If you have CC, cut a notch out like this so the extra wire for the CC doesn't get hung up any more. It always bothered me that the stupid assembly wouldn't come out freely and when I figured out why I guffawed, and proceeded to incise.
Also take the opportunity to put general grease on the turn signal mech and dielectric grease on the horn contact! A happy car does a happy driver make.
