Post How do you know that you have span a bearing?

Hello all. This may be a silly question, but how would one know if you're about to spin a bearing? or have span a bearing?
Thanks.

I don't think there are any warnings that you are about to spin a bearing. At least not to my knowledge.

I'll bet your oil pressure would drop pretty quickly, followed by a very noisy rod knock, followed by all kinds of awful sounds. All within less than a minute I'd guess. Anyone done it?

My oil pressure after engine warm up is between 2~3 Bar at idle and 4.5 while running. Anyone see anything wrong with these values?
I live in a hot climate, very hot and humid climate this time of year.

Your oil pressure looks about right. Are you experiencing any loss of power? Strange noises?

Spun rod bearings typically crop up in less than well maintained track cars. I had mine replaced at 130,000 miles, and the mechanic said they were probably original, and in good condition. (Previous owner did not track the car, btw).

If your car is only been driven on the street, you probably won't have this problem.

That said, cars that have not been maintained and have high mileage, but have only been driven on the street can be prone to this failure. Possible, but not likely.

Hope this helps,
-Z-man.

As the summer creaps up on us here, I do feel some loss of power, but thats just the heat. The history of my car is totally unknow to me.
I do have vaccum issues, only the other day, an air pipe from the Turbo intake manifold to one of the connections of the 3 way control valve under the intake manifold, came apart in my hand, during inspection.

when mine went, the #3, I was about to downshift ont eh highway and whne I put the car in neutral I heard it...the deathknell of the 944S engine. Clunk clunk clunkc clunk....I pulled over and listened more and it was coming fromt he bottom. I got int eh car and saw the oil press was almost gone. There was VERY little power to the enigne but if I kept the gas on halfwayt it kept the pressure and power up enough to get home. YOU WILL KNOW WHEN ONE HAS SPUN. It is a really bad feeling when you hear it, even if you know nothng about a car. It is a death sound. I almost cried ont he way home. $7000.00 later I have a rebuilt engine, with TONS of new components, a shaved head, lots of performance items Koni adjustables and new rims. It took a year but she is running great. I am now going to work ont he body and interior as I just bought a BMW M3 and now can take the P apart and still haev a car to have fun in.

Sorry for the crap typing. vad finger brain communication day.

Mine went on the track. Oil pressure dropped off during a lap intermiently. I only noticed it later on my video tap. Oil pressure was actually good in most places on the track except for one spot when I was too busy to look.

Then as exited one corner I felt some hesitation in the power delivery. I did not know what it was. 5 seconds later I hear a loud band at full throttle at about 80 in 4th gear. Then the sounds of marbles in steel drum. Then the car spun presubably on my own oil.

Result. Blew the bottom of the oil pan off and the entire side of the number 2 cylinder out in the block. Cracked the piston and broke the connecting rod. I also banged a valve, but salvaged the head and am still using that now.

I learned that part of my routine needs to be replacing the rod bearing one per year or so.
