I have always meant to check out that movie but for some reason I always stayed away from it. I don't think Bill Murray could top Johnny Depp as HST, but I will look into renting that movie. I heard it is now out on DVD as well.
He also has a bunch of articles on ESPN.com that are worth looking at.

the rum diary...excellent book..i read it on vacation on the beach in 3 or so days. the second day i had my glass of iced rum next to me...to get in the spirit of things hehehe. i was so sunburnt cause of that book (rum didnt help either). i didnt know it wsa being made into a movie. anyone have his quote he repeatedly slips into his books about "going over the edge".....thats another good one. (i know its defenitatly in the rum diaries and hells angels). im reading his biography right now by e jean carroll and its great by far the two best parts ive read:

hunter and i were driving along a cliffed highway overlooking the pacific ocean, we would put the beer infront of the radiator to keep it cool. we stopped to get out and replentish our drinks and the car stalled, hunter was furious he pulled out his .357 magnum and shot the car....SHOT THE CAR!!..we then pushed the car off the cliff....it was a big drop (not before removing the beer) and hitchhiked home.

a friend and i were driving on the beach in south america and we saw a fellow american walking so we approached him. it was hst obviously drunk with a small monkey in his pocket...WHO WAS ALSO DRUNK!! he said if you think thats wierd come back to my place. in his apartment was an animal that looked like a cross between a honey bear and a rat. hst had purchased this animal off two brazilians who were abusing it. the monkey eventually commited suicide off of hst balcony.

It has always been a dream of mine to hang out with the man for a weekend. That would be enough to have nightmares for the rest of my life. It would sure be fun (and weird) though!

"The Edge... There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others --- the living --- are those who pushed their control as far as they felt they could handle it, and then pulled back, or slowed down, or did whatever they had to when it came time to choose between Now and Later.

But the edge is still Out there. Or maybe it's In. The association of motorcyles with LSD is no accident of publicity. They are both a means to an end, to the place of definitions." --- HST '65

More Hunter Thompson (I'm with ya there Enzo)
"There is nothing in this world as depraved or irresponsible as a man in the depths of an ether binge."
also: "There's a big f@ckin machine in the sky!"

Winston Churchill:
In conversation with female member of royal family:
"Winston, if I were your wife, I'd poison your tea."
"Madam, if I were your husband, I'd drink it."

other notables:
"The slave thinks he is released from bondage only to find a stronger set of chains."

"Porsche. There is No Substitute."

Enzo,

It's not that I've never heard such words, I just don't consider them neccasary in conversation..or pleasant to read.

Thank you for editing..

I was driving with a few people the other day and we passed this bike I almost hit him, because he decided to merge in front of a car. After a bit of discussing the stupidity of the other person I said "Even if I would've wanted to stop, I probably couldn't have"

Another quick Churchill quote:

Churchill: "Madam, would you sleep with me for £100,000?"

Woman: "Yes, I would"

Churchill: "Ok, for £2?"

Woman: "Just what kind of woman do you think I am? Of course not!"

Churchill: "Madam, we've already determined what kind of woman you are. Now we're simply trying to settle on a price."

or something to that effect, I'm recalling from memory

Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us would not succeed.
