Wheel paints
I know this has been covered, but I'd like to know exactly what people have used to paint their wheels..not exactly how.
I have recently 'blackened' the set. I am now, however looking for a metallic grey or black. I have a stone grey metallic car, so it should be darker then the car. What brands have you used and where were they purchased?
I like the anthricite color, but I'm not sure it will look right on my car. A metallic black, or DARK dark metallic grey would be sweet I think. I'll take some pictures of the current setup when I wash the car.

Robert:
I just used the Rustoleum set of primers/paints:
-Rustoleum car primer
-Rustoleum Black metallic paint
-Rustoleum clear coat finish.
I am sure I could have used better (ie more expensive paint), but the tires I refinished are for track use, so a little imperfection will not bother me too much!
HTH,

Z - How does the clear look? Any better then without? With the black paint I applied, I then shot a coat of clear and it seemed to put a flat-white haze on the practice wheel. Maybe something I did incorrectly with the clearcoat?
Others - I'll look at the metallic black, what other colors have been used?

Hey Robert, I think graphite metallic wheels would look good on your car. Didn't you have some borrowed black PD's w/Kumho's on the car awhile back? Or were those dish type wheels? Those dark wheels made it look dead serious, IIRC.
Unless you're totally sold on a dark metallic, you could polish one wheel and use some black for the accents just to see what it looks like... It's more work and may not be the look you're after, but if you have the time, it could really give your S a new look.

Yes, I had borrowed a set of black PD's. Now I have a set of black 928-style dish wheels. They look pretty nice, but I need to add another coat as the trip out to SC and FL put some wear on the paint. So I'm checking what other people have used on their wheels, so I can test the paint on my 'test' wheel (the horribly bent extra). By graphite metallic you mean a dark grey metallic paint? This is what I'm thinking. My paint is a shade lighter than yours, so the contrast of that darker color would look great.
A polished set is another option, but with one of my rears still bent on the inside...I don't think that is the best option for this set (as you said, it takes a some time).
I showed the pictures of your wheel to my brother, btw, as he has a set of Fuchs on his 912E. He was amazed to say the least (he polished/painted the set from my dad's 911 and sold them on Ebay a while back).

This is what the "Graphite" Duplic-Color wheel paint looks like:

Best paint I've ever used on wheels.

Did you polish the outside of the wheel, or is that completely painted?
I'm not sure how that would look with my car's color. Stone Grey with graphite, may be very close. I'll purchase a can of that for sure. Any other suggestions? My avatar is a pic of the car color.

I like those, Tifo. Don't the wheels appear a little darker when looking at the entire car? I think that color would be a good choice on Robert D's car which appears to be a stone gray, somewhat lighter than my Gemini Grau metallic.

I gave it 8-10 coats of clear (on top of 4-5 coats of black metallic). It makes a HUGE difference! The surface is much smoother, and offers a good barrier against scuffs and scratches. Between the coats of clear, I lightly sanded ONLY the areas that had little air bubbles: it was not necessary to sand the whole wheel.

Ok. I'll definetely try this, and I'm thinking I'll buy a can of the graphite and black metallic, and compare the two (half and half). What grade sandpaper did you use for the clear?
