Yep, I did use clearcoat. Duplicolor makes one that is compatible. That photo does make the color look a little lighter, the sun was really shining on the wheel there. They look a little darker in person. They have a lot of metallic flake in them that looks different in different lights sometimes.........

On the Porsche color wheel, stone grey and graphite are quite distinguishable. Stone grey is on the lighter side while graphite is much darker. Its hard to confuse either one for the other. They are as dissimilar as garnet and guards.

Robert D, just a suggestion I use to have an 87 944 that was the same stone metallic grey as yours and I bought it with the wheels painted a darker grey and it really did not look good on the car especially since they were 15 inch phone dials, made the wheels look even smaller. But that was just my opinion.

Whatever color you decide to use, Dupli-color paints are excellent to work with. They are a hard, durable glossy finish and they spray thick so it is easier to spray on lots of material without getting runs or sags. Highly recommended.

Ahh. I don't have phone dials. My car has the 928-style 16x7 and 16x8's...the car is also lowered to the point the tires are inside the fenders (rear still needs to be lowered a bit more). I'm not too worried about the wheels looking smaller, but I understand how PD's will do that sometimes. The beauty of wheel paint, is I can always change colors .
I will keep everyone posted, I am going to buy the graphite this weekend and paint the test wheel with it. I'll post some pictures.

No, ELLSSUU, not yet, but when I tear into the car in about a year for its complete rebuild, Chris (UD Pride) and I are going to do it up right; tiger lady on the side, Yosimite Sam "Back Off" mud flaps, Testarossa side strakes, and anything else we think of along the way.
