throwing a C4 into the equation, just knocks what i feel like paying for a 968 down a little. i am all for paying a fair price, but if i cant get diddly for my very nice S2, i dont feel like paying three times diddly for something very similar.

you mean a C5 like this http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...00&cardist=575

there are some nice 911's around 1999-2001ish that can be had for a little more then $20k and it's a hell of a car! and you know/can do your own work, so I don't see why not!

Default My .02

OK, I hear everyone with the Jap vs German, NA vs Turbo, new vs old..

My current stable:
1988 NA 944, now back on the street...
2000 Audi TT Quatro....hmmm
2003 Dodge Durango RT...AWD, 360 V8...Pulls a boat real nice, and a real nice boat

I like the TT, but it is a poor replacement for the 944, I have driven mid 90s RX7 twin turbo and single turbo upgraded cars, twin turbo 300Z cars, mid 2000s 350Z cars, S2000 pop tops, Italian super cars, American muscle cars from the 60s and 70s, along with a host of other purpose built cars (from economy to full drag cars)

Of all the cars I have ever driven, if given the choice (which I do have on a daily basis) I drive the 944, all the others are just static. The Porsche mentality and dedication to quality and driving joy is unmatched by all the others, the Audi comes close (which is why I bought it) but even the turbo and AWD cannot match the fun of the Porsche. I am actually looking now to sell the TT and replace it with a nice 951 (don't really like the look of the 968 headlights), and also looking for a solid 911.

There really is no substitute, I drive the Porsche every day, I have a back up when the Porsche is in for maintenance.

For the record - I'm using Tom R. as an example of how bad I can be in purchasing cars every 2-3 months with my wife to make her feel better when I need to buy a new car every 1-2 years. Of course she buys a new car every 4-5 years and only one car - all the others are mine!

This is my first Rennlist reply. I've read a lot of posts but never had much to say. I had a 350Z in my DE run group last month at Mid-America Motorplex. My stock 89 951 pulled him on the straights and also in the twisties but he always caught up to me coming out of the sweepers. Couldn't figure that out so I got a look at his car. He was running slicks and I had street tires. He said there is no camber adjustment on the front and the stock 350Z brakes were weak, his had Brembos. Brake issues aside, the 350Z is a pretty reliable car. We've had other Nissans with similar V-6 engines and never had any troupble. But I'd guess that you'd have to mod the front suspension (camber adjustment)to get decent front tire wear at the track. Regarding reliability, stock 951s seem pretty reliable, guys that mod the engines seem to work on them more. In particular, the 88-89 Turbo S is a pretty good trackmate.

I'll be heading to Hastings, NE Aug 8-9 for the NASA Rocky Mountain region race. They have an HPDE (DE event) that is pretty cheap and very informative. I think they only cost $299 for HPDE which is pretty cheap - plus when you make it up to the advanced group they allow passing in corners by point and then do exercises such as driving side by side in corners - I've never seen another "driving school" do that.

G's or Z's don't like to be driven over curbs too well. the aluminum rear chassis bends fairly easily and to strenghten it cost 1/2 as much as a used 951. I have had to repair a lot of those chassis and it is hard to get the feeling of the car back afterwards. I do not feel safe in those cars over 100 mph.
