Default Mileage ? 968 (New member)

Hello everyone. I have been looking at 968s recently and had a question. I have found 2 that I really like. One has 137,000 miles but has extensive service history including timing belt, water pump as well as the clutch. This car is also closer than the other (which has only 57,000 miles and service history as well). My question is how do these cars hold up in the long run? In other words is 137,000 miles too much? I will not be using the car as a daily driver but I will be driving it as much as possible. They are both 6 speed coupes by the way. A '94 and a '93. Thanks again fro any input.

That mileage is fine, mine has over 150k. Just make sure the variocam has been serviced, probably with a new cam chain, or that the cost of a service like that is figured into the price. If it has not been done at 135k it's on borrowed time.

The variocam was done. Sorry I forgot to mention that. At how many miles are you suppose to change that? Thanks again for your help.

Another thing to think about is the wear and tear on the interior/exterior of the higher mileage car. 137k miles is a LOT more chances for rock chips, door dings, coffee spills, leather rips, etc. It all depends on how the car was cared for over the years, but definitely something to think about when you are looking at the cars.
Good luck w/ the purchase, I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever 968 you buy. Where are you located anyways?

My 968 has 179k miles and runs like NEW. My mom's 968 has 223k miles and runs very well. These Porsches have the best designed, best built watercooled engines (I dare say!). As long as there is an adequate service history and the PO doesn't look like a schmuck, you can't go wrong. My 179k mile car only came with a few receipts, but those receipts were important ones.

Allen-I am in Northern NJ about 20 minutes outside of NYC. I looked at one in the Philly area at a dealer. It had 88,000 miles and seemed to be in pretty nice shape. The dealer had no records though. The paint and interior were really nice as were the fit and finish. I'm trying to be patient but after driving one and it's near impossible to fight the excitement. Thanks again for all your input.
