is 156k too many miles for a 944 turbo?

There is one for sale near me for $4,995 with 156k miles. It seems to me that the wheels alone are almost worth as much as the car. They're the turbo wheels that the newer 911's have.
This would be a daily driver? would you buy it? I'm not planning on restoring/modding it.

Wouldn't scare me off. A lot of guys on here have more miles than that. I have 120k on mine. They will go a lot more miles than that. Sounds like a good price also. What kind of shape is it in. Any records, and whatever you do get a PPI from someone who knows these cars. If that checks out, I'd say go for it. Good luck.

Headgasket ever replaced?
Turbo ever replaced?

PeteL, no doubt about the NAs (my '83 has 202K miles, all original) but the turbos have always been iffier. It's great to see these original high mile examples still running strong.

I believe Michelle's NA has close to 300,000 miles on it and she's just doing the head gasket now..

Clone,
You really didn't give us enough info to give an opinion on the 951. The price is very low for a 951 and would tend to make me wonder what hidden issues might be there. Perhaps it's one of those rare finds where you're the lucky one.
As for a 951 being a daily driver, here's some things to consider. ANY car with over 150k miles is an iffy daily driver. Stuff wears out. The 86 951 is now a 17 year old car. Not only that, but it's a 17 year old factory hot rod. Unless you've owned it all of it's life, then you have no idea how it was treated.
Daily driver means different things to different people as well. For me a daily driver is subjected to Houston traffic during rush hour on a 35 mile one way commute. Sorry, but no standard shift car fits my definition of a daily driver - especially one that's 17 years old. So the 951 stays in the garage and I drive an SUV with auto, cold air, CD, etc.
Maybe you live 5 miles from work, school, whatever. In that case the 951 might be ok as a daily driver.
Lots of questions, very few answers, as I mentioned - you really didn't give enough info to make a real call.
Good luck in your search. Keep us posted on what you decide. Welcome to Rennlist.
