Post OT: Drinking beer and posting on Rennlist

From the Pub across the street from my apartment. Got me some of this new fangled wireless type stuff. One of the goals (besides tapping on hotspots on the road) was to be able to get connectivity here. I live line of site across the street, so I hoped that even if the signal didn't make it stock I could "chip it" with a directional antenna and make it over here.

Well I wanted to see what I would get signal wise without the directional antenna. Well my signal barely makes it across the street. But it turns out the hotel/pub has an open hot spot in the hotel. So free internet acess and I gots to pay for the beers.

I support the drinking while posting and THINKING about driving scenario.. Look at the 120+ page post (Now in OT lounge..) I think we were all drunk at one point in time while posting on that debacle..

I could pack a cooler and get on Rennlist..
now,
If i could only get a urinal closer.. I really miss the internet access PC in my old garage, bathroom 4 steps away, was very handy- but oil is hell on a keyboard!

How does the hotel keep their hotspot from being accessible to you at your house?

Range. I have g and it has the longest range and I can't even acess that from across the street, and I can't even see them from my apartment.

There is a guy (don) that has a great signal because I can see his signal all over.

To keep people from using your access point, you have to enable WEP encryption. This keeps most people out, but if someone is running Linux, all they have to do is download a WEP cracker. Although most wont take the time to crack a home network unless they're just playing around. I have several directional antennas that I made from various bits and pieces including a parabolic one made out if a dish network antenna.

Hey Chris, we can solve that closer urinal problem, goes like this; load up the cooler, get on Rennlist, and a catheter with extra long extension..........

Drinking and posting at the same time..???? I've heard a rumor, that if you do that - the next morning you can wake up an re-read your own posts for the "first time"... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I also here some say that some of the most effective Flames are authored while "partaking"...

As for me, I know better then to drink while reading Rennlist. However, soon after reading, I'm usually driven to drink - in mass quantities,if you must know ....

Hmmmm - I dunno why I'm reminded of this - but, has anyone heard from RIBS lately????
