Post pt cruiser turbo???

my dad just purchased a 2003 pt cruiser turbo. factory claims the engine produces 215hp from a turbocharged 2.4l engine (not sure if at the crank or wheels). the turbo is so little compared to a k26. how is it that the pt has smaller displacement and a smaller turbo yet makes almost the same horsepower as a stock 951? i just wanna tell my dad that my 951 (when i get one) will smoke his pt in stock form. what do you think guys? am i gonna have to secretly chip my car to spank his in a straight line?

uhhh, you dont need to chip your car dude. feel no threat. 200hp in a porsche is not the same as 200hp in non-performance car. I think that pt needs at least 200hp just to move. our cars are geared for speed. on another note, if you're looking to get a porsche because they're fast, I think you're looking at them for the wrong reason.

The PT Cruiser is smaller, but it's also got another 15 years worth of horsepower.

i've driven both cars (sounds like you haven't drive a newer turbocharged car). i know what i'm looking for in a car that's why i drive a porsche. my dad and i are always sorta competing with cars. straight line performance in both the pt and the 951 are different in that the pt spools way faster than the 951. the 951's gearing is made for cornering, not drag racing. first gear is def not the same as the pt.
i KNOW i can take him in the corners with my 84 944, but straight line he'll pull away fast.

this is mostly about how how they get the horsepower numbers they do with smaller everything, but also about friendly competition with my pops.

My dad can bury me in horsepower and totally lose me in a straight line, even with an automatic tranny in his truck, but he'll never make it around a corner with me. I actually looked at a PT Cruiser the other day when I was seriously considering trading the 944 in.

No, just don't. I've driven the PT and I found nothing special about it... trading in a 944 for a cruiser would be blasphemy.

One is a Chrysler, one isn't. One is a lowered station wagon, one isn't. One is German engineering, one is Detroit metal. One will be worth 40% of MSRP in 3yrs, one won't. Any questions.

I'll put my fathers Supercharged PT against a stock 951 anyday, and probably win by an interesting margin.

Do some suspension tweaks and the PT's could almost out handle a 951.

Would I rather have it than my 951, no, but it is a nice car.

My 2.0L NA Acura has 200hp at the crank (anything from a car company is usually the crank, cuz it's higher). But in a straight line it might as well be a Yugo competing against my 951, especially when accelerating from 50mph or higher.
The acura gets the high peak through high revs and advanced timing technology (iVTEC). The cruiser might have something similar.

The number they give is peak hp. What's the torque curve like on the pt cruiser? That's what really matters. The 951 has a very high torque curve with a peak at 247(?) lb-ft.

I want to get the wood paneled PT. OOOHH! Better yet, get the wood paneling on my 951! That'd be cool!

Speaking of turbocharged cars and chrysler, is the new turbo neon out yet? I saw a dual exhaust neon today and it looked pretty stock to me... Maybe just tasteful rice? Possible?!
