Post Rear suspension question

Greetings all. I was hoping someone out there could help me. I have an '86 non-turbo 944 with what I think is a blown passenger side rear shock. The corner mentioned above just settled as if fully compressed when I last pulled it into the garage. The torsion bar appears to be ok since the affected corner can still bounce. Is this a blown shock? Is this common? I've searched the internet high and low (including these forums) and have found no mention of the problem. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Shizz

Jack it up and pull the shock,it could be blowan/broken or you could have a torsion bar problem, you really need to take a look. Just pull the shock bolt off the bottom mount and you should be able to tell pretty quick.

If it's all the way down in that corner it's not the shocks. The shocks don't hold the car up, they just dampen vibrations (i.e. bumps), the springs (and the rest of the suspension) hold the car up. I'd look for a broken spring, suspension mount, or other suspension component. Whatever is broken should be pretty obvious, and if you need compare with the other side to see what it 'should' look like.

I agree with thomschoon, remove the shock and see what gives. It sounds like a torson bar problem to me.

Its not the shock as some are even hydraulic and does not hold up the car at all. It is your suspension or torsion bar.

Thanks for all the replies. I will jack it up tonight to take a look now that I have some direction. Hopefully its not the torsion bar.

Thanks again,
Shizz
