You have to remove the crank pulley to remove the water pump, which would be avoidable if the rear belt cover was cut in half.

Yep, but if you are doing the pump, why not replace the front seals too?

Got the front end of the car apart. The washer is in properly (convex side out), but the ps pulley is bent - looks like he pried on it. I guess the next step is to tear it all apart and look at the o-ring (bought new ones from the Porsche dealership). Do you think it could be the bent pulley, or is it probably the o-ring?

Just get the crank pulley off and the belt gears off and have a look at it, chances are he left the washer out or similar?

While the pwr steering pully bent is a potential issue, unless it prevented a good tight seal on the oil pump drive it isn't the issue.

Keep searching!

I think the bent pulley did show what the problem was. It was assembled incorrectly. Pull the spark plugs, diconnect the coil, then crank the engine. Within 20 seconds you should see the answer with the oil preasure gauge.

Well, she's fixed! My heartfelt thanx to Bruce who is the winner of the first "Let's Cleanup after the Mech" competition. It was, indeed, the PS pulley: <img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/wp-pulley1.JPG" alt=" - " />

As your reward you have a free beer coming whenever I see you. Also we have this wonderful prize!!:

Michelle, I am SO glad your are up and running again! Now it's time to litigate with your "former" mechanic?? j/k. I never really liked him anyway- he was too slow and didnt seen to know EXACTLY what he was doing. Remember he billed 20 Hours of labor for a 10 hour (his estimate) replacement flex disc?? I was without my car for 3 weeks on that debacle. I was livid.

Keep the rubber side down, and enjoy the boost!!!
Ok, next up- mine back on the road!! We could all use a string of owner AS mechanic sucess stories about now
Keep the faith, and the good karma coming!

Was it obvious to see (with the car running) that the power steering pump pulley (the one on the engine side, not the pump) was misaligned.

I noticed a slight wobble in mine today, but no oil leak or recent work done to it.

Michelle, I am relieved that you fixed it! I am sorry that this happened to you, and I hope you acquire a good Porsche knowledgeable mechanic in the future!

Michelle, if you ever need work done in the future, I can give you the name of my mechanic. They're in Bensenville, I don't know how close that is to you. They always have tons of Porsches covering the entire model range, and they're race cars always seem to be winning the races. I had the misfortune of bringing my car in the week before a big race both times, so they got pretty backed up. Other than that I don't have any complaints, and they're the cheapest out of any place I called.

Its funny but I can see the pulley bent from the picture. Why would one not recommend a replacement when the old one is bent? Also, that thing must have wobbled like crazy while the car is running. Anyways, congratulations on finding the problem.

It's bent b/c the stupid mech wrapped a chain around it to hold it in place! I used the pulley from my n/a and am now in the market for a ps pulley. Anyone have one?
