Default My front tires are rubbing :(

So recently I swapped out my old 215/60/15 Falken tires for some 225/60/15 BFG tires. After the new tires were mounted I noticed that whenever I took a right turn hard (hard being 30mph+) I would hear a grinding noise not unlike when the spoiler bottoms out on a curb or something. I had already installed a 25.5mm front swaybar (upgrade from a 23mm) prior to the tires so I couldn't try that to eliminate rubbing..

After a search a week or two ago I read that a possible cause for rubbing was saggy springs. So about an hour ago I finished installing 200# springs onto my car (up from about 160# stock). However although the springs are stiffer, they did lower the front of the car maybe an inch.

I took the car out after swapping springs and still heard the grinding noise on right turns. I figure this makes sense because my weight is on the outside of the turning circle and making the force compress the suspension on my side more than the passenger side. Upon getting home I saw that the inside lip of the front fenders is stripped to the metal in some places.

What can I do to stop the tires rubbing?

Maybe try rolling the fenders?

I have the same tire size, and mine rub a little to.

Mine doesn't make the kind of noise that you describe, but I got to looking around, and my tires only rub the plastic liner a little bit. I would take the tires off and see where they rub before taking a baseball bat to the fender lip. This is a very common tire size for rennlisters with 15" wheels. I don't know why yours would have any more problems than the rest of us....unless maybe your car was wrecked and the fenders aren't exactly where the factory put them.

funny thing....mine only does it when I turn left lol

Yep. I did 215/50 this time because of cost but it's still better than the 225/50 I had on there.

I've got 245/50/16 on 86turbo phones in front and dropped about an inch, it barely rubs anywhere except just a bit on the inner linerin a pretty hard turn

225/60?! Thats a bit high. I had 225/50/15s when I ran Phone Dials with no problems.

I currently have 235/40ZR18 in the Front with no issues. Kinda odd you can with 15's. I would imagine due to the high sidewall. The 295s in back of mine are another story...

Ok well maybe in the next few days I'll make an attempt to roll back the fender lip...or just swap the tires for shorter ones. The speedo is reading a bit optimistic due to the larger tire so maybe I should just switch.

I had that rub all the time with the stock 215 tires on hard right turns also, when I replaced both the front springs and struts it went away and has never happened again.

would your wheel offset have anything to do with it? im not entirely certain that my wheels are original...the options specify for light alloy wheels but id imagine that would be cookies for my early car. i know my BBS wheels were common on 911s...hmm.

Speedo would be pessimistic with taller tires. Thinks it's going slower than it really is.
