Post Please help with PS return line..FIXED!!

My return line has been leaking a bit lately so while cleaning my engine compartment, I thought this would be a good time to fix the leak. After disconnecteing the line from the reservoir, I saw a crack in the inner lining. A simple fix, right. After reconnecting the hose and turning the car on to check to see if it still leaks, I can see the fluid pouring out of the reservoir.

The line rupture at a point to low to cut and refit. It looks like I need a new line. But the fun part is.... Porsche in their infinite wisdom made it all one piece with the cooler.

I thought about getting some reinforced hose from the auto store but don't know if that will work.

How hard is it to change that line by myself and are there any other alternatives??

Thanks for reading this far,
Daniel

Temp fix: I used a 3" piece of 3/4" OD copper tubing and, once I cut the PS line past the cracks, inserted the copper tube and clamped it. I cut a section of new transmission hose (it's reinforced as well so should hold) and slid that over the reservoir fitting. The other end of the new line was slid over the other end of the copper tubing and clamped.

The copper acts as a splice in the PS line. Plus it reinforces the area around the clamp. So far it's holding well.

BTW, PS fluid it's flamable is it? It's all over my headers from the rupture.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

nice! 3/4" is the measure of the inner diameter?

I have a similar problem. Question: Which is the high pressure line? Is it the smaller diameter hose that returns to the reservoir or the larger hose that goes to the pump? I'm planning to Dremel off the crimped connector below the headlight apparatus on the leaking smaller hose and then put on some 1/2" diameter hose to replace the old decaying stuff. I then want to flush the system but not sure how. Any advice appreciated.

The line returning to the reservoir is the pressure line (runs to front of teh car and is connected to the hard line acting as a cooler. The rubber hose is 3/4" ID and 5/8" OD.

I replaced the rubber portion of my "return line" with what the autoparts guy called autotrans hose. Has worked perfectly so far.

Not sure I remember it quite the way you guys have though, I thought the pressure line was a larger diameter hose that ran from the pump to the PS actuator (rack). Everything else is the return line/cooler.
