Arrow Digital Clock Transplant...

I have the same problem as probably many of you late model 944 owners have, that stupid clock doesn't work. I was just browsing eBay and noticing many cars have digital clocks, so...has anyone ever successfully tried to transplant/rewire another cars clock to go into where the late model 944 clock goes? Anyone know which one will work? The 944 clock is just too hard to find and too expensive. Thanks.

I will gladly trade a "WORKING" clock from my 86, for a working outside temp gauge from a 968.

Most new stereo's now a days have clocks in them, so it becomes redundant. And the temp gauge is so cool. This project is high on my list (after injectors, electronic boost controller, a-arms, struts....oh man, I'll never get there)

BTW - The reason my clock works, is because the car was stored for 8 years with no battery.

Someone made an air fuel meter to go there, can't remember who though.

There was a site online that showed you how to make one yourself from scratch, you may want that there....?

Hmmm. What exactly is the failure mode of the digital clock? I have an '88, and the clock seems to be fine. It tells the time...does this mean it's working?

I bought my car with a busted clock. The failure mode was pretty obvious; the display was cracked vertically in two places. I got a working one on eBay for around $60, IIRC.

The clock light bulb can burn out, not really a failure, but the bulb is a dealer-only part, if they even have it in stock, and costs $5!

Yes, I'm bitching about a $5 part. But it's JUST NOT RIGHT!

As was noted, most common failure mode is a broken LCD display - its very fragile and when pressed on too hard either cracks or a black half moon forms over the digits from damage to the layers of glass and chemicals.

It was Danno who had a procedure for the A/F gauge transplant - believe he has it on his Rennlist RacerX web site.

You can get the bulbs elsewhere - Sylvania #2721 - two on a card at Pep Boys or Auto Zone for something like $2. Those are 2.1 watt bulbs - they also have the 1.2 watt versions, but don't have that number handy (I'm using the card & extra bulb from my replacement effort as a ref). Both versions/numbers were listed in the bulb x-ref book hanging by the store display.

944.641.900.00 is a 300mw bulb, also used in the headlight switch.

I wouldn't know, but I replaced mine with an air/fuel mixture gauge and it fit almost perfectly. It was a much cheaper solution and it works great there.

I'VE DONE THIS PROCEDURE, AND YOU WILL ALSO NEED A TEMP SENSOR, THE 968 HAD THIS ITEM POSITIONED IN THE PASSENGERS MIRROR.

I didn't know it had a light, I think I'll have to tear mine apart sometime soon.
